Opportunities to Serve in the Rotary Club of Mesquite

 

Our club is involved in many ongoing projects and activities each year.  These provide our members with a wide variety of gratifying opportunities to get involved, and to contribute their talents and their enthusiasm.  Whatever your talents and interests might be, we probably offer some projects, activities, and committees that would appeal to you!

Our service programs and tasks are organized around producing our annual Mesquite Rotary Bike Ride fundraiser, and accomplishing work in the Rotary "Avenues of Service," which include Club Service, Community Service, Vocational Service, and International Service.  Here is a listing of some of the programs, committees, and tasks in each of these areas:

Club Service

  • Securing speakers and programs for weekly meetings.
  • Updating club bylaws periodically.
  • Updating insurance and risk management requirements.
  • Updating member classification lists periodically.
  • Assisting with the club's public relations efforts.

Community Service

  • Assisting with the annual food drive.
  • Assisting with the annual school supply drive.
  • Working on the club's "Addressing Mesquite Day" team.
  • Assisting in the annual "Dentists with a Heart Day."
  • Assisting in planning the "Grove of Honor" program.

Vocational Service

  • Serving on the club's Scholarship Committee.
  • Serving on the club's Camp RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp) Selection Committee.
  • Serving on the club's "Four Way Test" Speech Contest Committee.
  • Assisting in guiding, advising, and supporting our Rotaract Club that we sponsor at Dallas College - Eastfield Campus in Mesquite.
  • Assisting in our efforts to develop and sponsor Interact Clubs at local high schools.

International Service

  • Assisting with our annual dental and medical mission in Guatemala.
  • Contributing to the Rotary Foundation to help the organization fund Polio Plus vaccination efforts abroad, and other projects to assist people in need.
  • Working on Rotary International Matching Grants for third world water projects, and third world community development projects.
  • Assisting in Rotary and Wheelchair Foundation efforts to provide wheelchairs for those in need abroad.

Annual Bike Ride Fundraiser

  • Serving on the event planning committee.
  • Working at one of the pre-event early packet pickup times at local bike shops.  
  • Assisting with set up and tear down of the event site.
  • Assisting on the event's Registration committee.
  • Working at one of the event's Rest Stops for the cyclists.
  • Working on one of the SAG support trucks to assist cyclists during the ride.
  • Assisting in marking the cyclists' routes by deploying signs and traffic cones, and picking them up after the ride's conclusion.
