Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for Members and Prospective Members

What is the club's attendance policy?

Our club normally meets every Tuesday of the month (except the fourth Tuesday). Members are encouraged to attend meetings whenever possible, but there are no penalties for missing a meeting. No make-up meetings are required anymore under the new Rotary International guidelines.

How do I become a new member of the club?

  • If you want to learn more about our club and you already know someone in our club, let them know you would like to attend a meeting. If you do not know any members of our club, feel free to send us a message on this website or via our Facebook page. We will be happy to get in touch with you and discuss Rotary.
  • After attending at least two meetings, if you would like to apply for membership, you may fill out an application HERE. Please note you will need a member of our club to be your sponsor for membership.
  • Submit your membership application and your sponsor will keep you apprised of the next steps.

For current members, how do I propose a new member to the club?

  • Your prospective member should attend at least two club meetings so other members are able to become familiar with your guest.
  • After your guest has attended several meetings, have them complete an application and return it to the club secretary for submission to the club's board.
  • Wait for the club secretary or president to notify you of the board's decision on the application.
  • If the board approves the application, ask the proposed member to refrain from visiting club meetings until a vote by the membership has been completed.
  • Ensure your proposed member is familiar with the requirements of being a club member.
  • Wait for the club president to publicize the proposed new member's name and classification to the club. Seven days are allowed for club members to consider and file objections, if there are any.
  • If no objections are received, the proposed member can then be officially inducted into the club.

What is the financial commitment involved in being a member of the Mesquite Rotary Club?

All members will be billed monthly dues of $35 regardless of the number of weekly meetings attended or missed in the month. All Rotary International, District, club and administrative fees will be included in the $35 monthly dues.

We also strongly encourage our members to donate at least $10.00 per month, or $120.00 per year, to the Rotary Foundation in order to participate in funding their good works around the world, and to work toward becoming a Paul Harris Fellow. This donation can be added as an option, however, so it is not included in the $35 monthly dues charge. If you wish to be a sponsor of the club's annual Rodeo Road Rally bike ride fundraiser, a monthly donation for that purpose can also be added to your bill.

Lunch is available at our current meeting place for between $6.00 - $8.00, depending on the weekly offering. Lunch must be ordered in advance.

Also, our members typically participate in our traditional "Handshake Dollar Drawing" by putting one dollar in the pot at each meeting. If the two members whose names are drawn at the end of the meeting have shaken hands, and they are each wearing their Rotary pin and badge, they win and split the money in the pot.
